While the long-awaited in-development streetscape project from the La Jolla Community Foundation is “on the cusp of being able to start,” organizers are stopping short of providing a concrete starting date.

The streetscape project is designed to revitalize Girard Avenue. Phase 1 of the plan would renovate Girard between Prospect and Wall streets with improved lighting and seating as well as more street trees, curb extensions and traffic-calming measures.

Overall, the project would add 63 new benches, 49 new trees, 51 lights and 9,100 square feet of public space. Phase 2 would then renovate Girard between Wall and Silverado streets with the same features.

The multi-million dollar project has received state and federal grants, as well as over $3 million in private donations since it was introduced in 2021.
